Check out these Visa WOAP events taking place during Beervana weekend - so once you’re Beervana session is wrapped up, the good times can roll on. (Or, alternatively, rev up in the lead up to your Beervana session!)
It’s a Welly weekend of barbecue, gin, fermentation, hot wings, an internationally acclaimed Kiwi chef and - of course - more beer!
All Fired Up (10-11 Aug)
Macs Brewbar along with Fire, Grill and Co. bring you smoked up burger masterpieces; a six-foot long Yakitori grill for those caramelised flavours, and a fire-stoked rottiserie. Pitmasters will teach you how to get the best out of flame and coal, how to impart flavour into flame cooked-food, while the bar serves up Wellington craft beers and local mulled wine.
Garage Project & Friends (8-10 Aug)
Garage Project bring a rare and exclusive selection of beer and natural wines from their cronies from around the world at Garage Project’s Wild Workshop.
Beer No Evil, Pie No Evil (everyday throughout Aug)
Indulge in pies each with unique flavour combinations. Waikanae’s Siggy’s Pies brings pie flavour mash ups, from the classic to the quirky, with locally-sourced fresh ingredients, paired with Sprig & Fern's beers and ciders.
Summon Your Senses (10 Aug) -
Tuatara Brewing serves up a selection of bespoke brews and dishes using locally sourced fresh ingredients. The beers are chosen for their ability to draw out specific flavours to complement or contrast the food match.
Cooking With Smoke (9-10 Aug)
Join Wilson Barbecue, winners of Burger Wellington 2018, for a feast that’ll make you sweat. This fun-filled evening features education to improve your smoking skills and Double Vision Brewing beers to wash it all down. Wilson Barbecue will be smoking up a feast including brisket, pulled pork, ribs, tomahawk steaks, beef cheeks, mac and cheese, bread and more …meat sweats guaranteed!
Aperitivo Fermento (Every Mon-Sat of Aug)
Join Forresters Lane for a selection of aperitifs and fermented products to prepare you for the rest of your evening. Unlike those Europeans, we don’t have long lazy days to spend drinking negronis and spritzes, so pack your afternoon into a couple of hours before dinner.
Arabian Nights (everyday throughout Aug)
Beach Babylon embraces its inner Babylon, declaring August a month of Arabian Nights. Experience the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of Persia and feast on a fusion of exotic Middle Eastern flavours combined with great Wellington produce.
If you want to experience a Visa WOAP chef collaboration, this is the one for you on Beervana weekend! Loretta welcomes New Zealand-born London chef, Margot Henderson of much-loved London eatery, The Rochelle Canteen, for a lunchtime event that will bring together their shared values of food that is unfussy, simply delicious, a little messy, and entirely enjoyable. We think Rochelle and Loretta are going to be best friends.
Green Man Hot Wings Challenge (10 Aug)
Fifteen competitors take on some of the hottest chicken wings known to man. The Green Man has curated a progressive scale of heat, starting at Bloody Hot and ending at Total Molecular Annihilation. Competitors vie for the grand prize of free wings every week for a whole year under the keen eye of 75 guests, three guest judges, an MC and representatives from Wellington Free Ambulance - ready to resuscitate, if required. Tickets include drinks and canapés, and all proceeds are donated to Wellington Free Ambulance.
Just the Tonic (10-11 Aug)
Not your traditional afternoon tea. Settle in for an afternoon of Floriditas and Fentiman’s botanical tonics matched to an impressive variety of gins. Floriditas has a reputation for its famously delicious and dainty baked goods, so expect old-school finger sandwiches, the fluffiest of scones and temptingly moreish cakes, in a wide range of flavours and textures created to complement and contrast the juniper spirit.
After all, it’s just how you do when you’re in the craft beer/culinary capital of New Zealand.
