It’s been a few years since we’ve seen 8 Wired Brewing at Beervana, and we’re welcoming the Warkworth brewery and Good Beer favourite back with open arms (spoiler alert: you will be too).
The brewery has a reputation for its extremely well crafted range of beers, executed by the brewing team, led by Head Brewer, Søren Eriksen. But 8 Wired’s barrel aged beersies are where the brewery is a viking, and its new barrel aged facility will be turning out some aged Festival gems for you to try. We had a pre-fest natter to Søren who shared some insights on the beery rewards you’ll reap when you visit its stand at Beervana 2020.
This is the first time 8 Wired Brewing has been back to Beervana since 2017. What have you been up to since then?
2017 sounds like a lifetime ago and lots of things have happened since then - both in the world and in our brewery! Most notably, we finally fulfilled the lifelong plan of opening a dedicated barrel ageing facility and tap room. Barrelworks in Matakana will be almost a year old to the day when Beervana comes around.
What can punters look forward to from 8 Wired at Beervana 2020?
We’ll have a range of barrel aged and "normal" beers, ranging from big sticky stouts, over sours and IPAs to refreshing lagers.
Do you have any special beers you can give us a bit of a preview on?
Gorky Park is a big bourbon barrel stout; Wilder Peach is a barrel aged sour; Once Were Vikings is a Kveik fermented NZ IPA, and to top it off we'll have some West Coast IPA, Lagers and Hazy Pale Ales.
What are you personally looking forward to at Beervana this year?
I'm mainly looking forward to catching up with everyone in the industry, customers and fellow brewers alike. Beervana is always great for gathering everybody under the same roof and getting a good look at what the industry is up to as a whole.
What Kiwi beers and/or breweries are you enjoying atm?
Beervana takes place on 20-21 November. Grab your crew, and lock in your Beervana tickets! Visit beervana.co.nz.
